The End of an Era

 THE END OF AN ERA

As the seasons change, wherever we are, we go through life changes, and we transition from one stage to another. This may be scary or difficult because reality hits us into realizing that things won’t stay the same for a long time. The best we can do is to embrace these changes. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to do it automatically because we would be so used to a certain system in our lives to the extent that once we have to go through changes, it becomes challenging and rather draining.

I too am going through a huge change where I have to close a phase in life that I have known for 18 years of my life. Now that I’m ending the whole high school experience, I feel so relieved and excited that I will be able to be an adult and be able to do ‘my own stuff’. But at the same time, the reality is hitting me left right, and centre because in growing up comes many responsibilities and work that one has to do to make sure that they and everyone that’s around you survive.

Some of us have already finished our final exams and now the biggest question is, what are we supposed to do? What now? While others who are finishing up with their exams are anticipating their end and planning on what to do and enjoy. As we transition from childhood to adulthood, we have to realize that we have to be able to adapt to these changes and be able to put our energy into activities that increase our value instead of deteriorating it.

Self-reflection is one of the most important activities to do when one is trying to figure out their path in life. Especially when we are now transitioning from a more structured environment to an environment where we have to structure to fit our current situations. Getting to know what has transpired throughout life so far and analyzing uncomfortable situations that have occurred in our lives can help us in finding out ourselves. However, this will only work if one is willing enough to sit back and judge themselves critically and be able to stand the truth about one’s self.

Having a lot of time on our hands is a huge advantage because it gives us the space and room to make mistakes and figure out ourselves in hopes of becoming the best versions of ourselves. What is the best version of yourself? This is the person whom you imagine yourself to be in the next 10 years. Be it physically, financially, or geographically. This is the model of the ideal life that one aspires to have. For us to become the best versions of ourselves we have to put in the work and effort. Bodybuilders train every day and make sure that they make some form of progress to attain their specific goals.

Before we do any of these things, we need to move on from whatever we were going through so we can make room for what’s to come, good or bad. This doesn’t mean that you have to forget everything that ever happened and act as if there was nothing to be grateful for or happy about. It is no crime to reminisce about the old days, but never stop yourself from becoming better and living life because we are still trying to relive a stage that has already passed.

The most important thing is to remember to fully live every phase in life and know that there are way more to come and more things to look forward to as we embark on this journey called life, which will be totally different for everyone
